Degree ProgramsTransfer Programs: Associate Degree, University Studies Few colleges offer as many and as varied academic options as Allegany College of Maryland. There is a plan or program here to help virtually every student achieve his or her academic goals and career objectives. Our abundant credit course offerings and numerous certificate and associate degree programs assure that nearly every person, regardless of stage of life or career, can benefit from an Allegany College of Maryland education. Well represented are programs in such expanding career fields as computers, health care and human services, business and industry. These and other Allegany College of Maryland career programs prepare students to enter a new field, whether it be a first career or a career change. Transfer programs enable students to begin almost any four-year college program here. Completing the first year or two of their education at Allegany College of Maryland helps to substantially reduce costs as it confirms for students that they are on the right academic track. We also have transfer programs for students who can foresee beyond the bachelor's degree level and into professional school. We can devise a program of study to meet nearly any professional objective. The choices, then, depend on your goals and how many years of education it will take to achieve them. Transfer Programs: Associate Degree
Transfer Program: University StudiesIf your goal is to transfer to a four-year college or university after attending Allegany College and you know where you wish to transfer, you should strongly consider this program. It permits you to take only those courses that the four-year college or university requires while earning your associate degree. The first two years of the following majors can generally be completed at Allegany College:

Statewide Designated ProgramsThe Maryland Higher Education Commission has designated certain instructional programs at Maryland community colleges as statewide. Students enrolling in a statewide program are eligible for a refund of all (or a portion of) the out-of-county tuition differential. Interested students should contact the Admissions Office. Advanced DegreesDistance LearningThrough advanced telecommunications technology, Allegany College is making higher education far more accessible to tri-state area residents by enabling them to pursue degrees and course work unavailable locally. Using Allegany College telecommunication facilities, students can earn out-of-area bachelor careers or advance their present careers. Distance learning is a proven educational method that is rapidly expanding educational opportunities nationwide. By making its services available to tri-state residents, Allegany College is markedly increasing local access to higher education. Students can tap into the growing number of courses and programs offered via distance learning by an increasing number of colleges and universities, by enrolling as if they were regular on-campus students. Allegany College receives distance learning courses from other institutions by three means:
Any signal or transmission that Allegany College can receive from a college or university can be made available to the distance education student for a reasonable service fee paid to Allegany College. Persons interested in earning advanced degrees from other institutions via distance learning services at Allegany College can learn more about it by contacting Jane Paulson, Allegany College Director of Professional Development and Extended Learning. She can be reached at 301-784-5121. TelecoursesEach semester, the College plans to offer several courses by television in cooperation with the Maryland Center for Public Broadcasting. All students who wish to enroll in these classes may do so during regular college registration. Participants study and attend classes at home and visit the campus for labs, special sessions, and examinations. Special arrangements can be made for those who are housebound.
