Founded in 1961, Allegany College of Maryland moved its main campus to newly constructed buildings in 1969. Today, the campus consists of 10 major buildings on 316 acres in a suburban setting:

  • College Center -- The heart of the main campus, this combined student union and administrative office building is newly renovated and greatly expanded. Among its features: a 400-seat theater, dining area, game room, and student lounge. Important offices like Admissions and Registration, Business and Financial Aid are here.
  • Library -- An important center of student learning, the library has an extensive collection of printed and non-print materials. Computerized indexes and databases aid research by students, as does a helpful and informed staff.
  • Allied Health Building -- Health and health-related credit and continuing education offerings are housed in a striking new (completed in spring 1995) two-story structure that contains thoroughly up-to-date offices, classrooms and laboratories.
  • Humanities Building -- The principal classroom building underwent a complete renovation and major expansion in time for the fall 1995 semester. The Instructional Assistance Center, offering tutoring, transfer advising and testing services, is among the occupants.
  • Science Building -- Another key classroom building, it houses classroom and laboratories, and is due for renovation in the near future.
  • Careers Center/Technology Building -- The location of many technology-based programs, such as computer science, communication media, office technologies and electronic and electromechanical technologies, it also houses the forestry and business programs. An interactive distance learning system that links the main campus with the Pennsylvania branch campuses likewise is here.
  • Automotive Technology -- Classes and labs for this increasingly high-tech field.
  • Physical Education -- Housing a large gymnasium, swimming pool, fitness center and weight room. Outside are playing fields, tennis courts and running track.
  • Campus Store/Advancement Office Building -- Bright and spacious campus store selling books and other merchandise in one portion of the building; in the Advancement Office's portion are public relations and the Allegany College of Maryland Foundation, which administers locally sponsored scholarships.
  • Center for Continuing Education -- Contains meeting rooms for conferences, seminars and workshops as well as classrooms and computer labs for courses and training for purposes ranging from career entry and development to personal enrichment. A state-of-the-art fiber-optic interactive distance learning classroom links Allegany to other colleges, universities and schools in Maryland through a statewide network.
